H

Hydrate

Drink 10-14 8oz glasses of water a day, proper hydration is essential for metabolic function.

  • Drink a full glass of water when you wake up
  • To ensure hydration throughout the day, drink an 8 oz glass of water hourly
  • Minimize diuretics like caffeine and alcohol, which can inhibit water and electrolyte reabsorption in the kidneys

P

Protein

Eat at least 50-90 grams of protein a day. Adequate protein intake balances blood sugar for sustained energy levels, and increases satiety so you eat fewer calories.

  • Eat a breakfast that includes at least 30 grams of protein to start off your day
  • Split the remaining protein intake between the rest of your meals
  • If you snack, make sure the majority of calories come from protein to ensure feeling full and refueled

W

Whole, nutrient dense foods

Opt for fresh, organic foods that provide essential vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that support metabolism. 

  • Include at least 5 colorful fruits and vegetables into your diet daily
  • Choose complex carbohydrates like brown rice or quinoa that are high in fiber and won’t spike blood sugar

Eat Mindfully

Reduce distractions before a meal and take it slow to allow your brain-gut axis to properly signal digestion and satiety. It takes 20 minutes for your brain to receive the message that you are full.

  • Sip water or brush your teeth at the end of a meal to cleanse the palate and reinforce signaling that you are finished eating

Sleep

Aim to get 8 hours of sleep nightly, 7 hours minimum. A balanced circadian rhythm is crucial to maintaining a healthy metabolism. When the hormones involved with your sleep-wake cycles are thrown off it disrupts energy, appetite and ability to maintain a healthy weight. 

  • Stick to a regular routine of waking and going to sleep at the same time daily
  • Finish eating at least 2-3 hours before bed
  • Avoid alcohol 4 hours before bed, and caffeine 6-8 hours before bed

Move
